Toya Johnson’s Fibroid Vlog

January 22,2025

For years, reality TV star Toya Johnson has shared her life with the world. Now, in a candid and deeply personal new vlog series, “A Fibroid Journey,” she’s opening up about her ongoing battle with uterine fibroids, offering a powerful look at the physical and emotional toll of this common condition. The series, presented in partnership with USA Fibroid Centers, takes viewers behind the scenes, from doctor’s appointments and medical procedures to quiet moments of reflection, revealing how fibroids impact daily life and major decisions.

A Decade-Long Struggle and a Renewed Hope

Toya’s journey with fibroids began in 2013 after years of debilitating symptoms: painful pelvic pressure, heavy bleeding, and extreme fatigue. At just 31, she was presented with making a tough decision between two major surgeries to treat her fibroids: a myomectomy, which would preserve her fertility, or a hysterectomy, which would prevent her from having children in the future.

In 2017, Johnson opted for the myomectomy, a procedure that offered relief, but came with its own set of challenges, including a lengthy recovery period and painful incisions similar to her c-section delivery.

This recurrence brought new anxieties, especially the fear that she and her husband, Red Rushing, might not be able to expand their family. It was this pivotal moment that inspired Toya to document her experience in “A Fibroid Journey.”

A Relatable Look at Living with Fibroids

“Sharing my story means connecting with people who are going through the physical and emotional toll of fibroids, who need the hope that they can get better, and people who need to know there are other treatment options,” Toya explains.

“I want to use my platform to speak about this and do whatever it takes to get the word out that there are other options, and you do not have to suffer,” Toya emphasizes.
