Researchers Explore Same-Day Discharge After Myomectomy

September 08,2025

A new study is examining whether patients undergoing myomectomy—the surgical removal of fibroids—can safely return home the same day instead of staying overnight in the hospital. Researchers found promising evidence that same-day discharge is both safe and feasible, particularly for myomectomies performed laparoscopically, meaning the procedure is performed through small incisions in the abdomen with camera aid.

If widely adopted, this approach could reduce healthcare costs, improve recovery experiences, and make fibroid surgery less disruptive to women’s lives. It also highlights the growing shift toward patient-centered fibroid care.
