State Representative Kyra Harris Bolden Receives the Fibroid Fighters’ 2022 Champion Award

August 24,2022

Michigan State Representative Kyra Harris Bolden was presented with the 2022 Champion Award by the Fibroid Fighters Foundation at their annual fibroid awareness dinner, “A Night in Purple”, held July 28, 2022, at the Empire Steak House, in New York. Bolden, who represents Michigan’s 35th District, was honored for her efforts in introducing a resolution to declare Uterine Fibroids Awareness Month in Michigan.

Fibroid Fighters Founder and CEO Yan Katsnelson, M.D., presented the award, which recognizes community leaders for raising awareness of the fibroid disease, which affects over 26 million women in the United States.

The event drew over 200 attendees and brought together lawmakers, activities, celebrities, and fibroid survivors. Hosted by celebrities Cynthia Bailey, Kym Lee and Miss Diddy, the event included special guests TT Torrez, NY Hot 97 Radio; Eboni K. Williams, Real Housewives of New York.

“We are saluting State Representative Bolden for her support of bringing awareness and the importance of early detection, treatment options and health equity to her state,” said Katsnelson.

“I want to thank the Fibroid Fighters and the USA Fibroid Centers for this wonderful award,” said Bolden. “I have suffered from fibroids, and thankfully through our advocacy work in Michigan, we were able to get $500,000 in the budget for fibroid awareness and education.”

Bolen, who could not attend the event in person due to being eight months pregnant, videotaped her acceptance speech.
