Fibroid Awareness Week: A Time for Connection

April 02,2026

Fibroid Awareness Week is more than a date on the calendar—it is a dedicated time to show support for the millions of women navigating the challenges of uterine fibroids. At Fibroid Fighters, we believe no woman should have to suffer in silence from a condition that is so common, yet so often overlooked.

Our mission is to replace the “mystery” of fibroids with clear information, helping women move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling empowered.

What Are Uterine Fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop within the uterus. While they are benign, their impact on a woman’s life can be profound. Depending on their size and location, symptoms can include:

  • Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
  • Anemia and chronic fatigue
  • Frequent urination and pelvic pressure
  • Severe pelvic pain or “knife-like” cramping

Understanding Your Risk

While research into the exact cause of fibroids continues, we know that certain factors can increase a woman’s likelihood of developing them:

  • Family History: A genetic predisposition to fibroids.
  • Hormonal Balance: Elevated levels of estrogen and progesterone.
  • Demographics: Women of African American descent are statistically more likely to develop fibroids at an earlier age.
  • Lifestyle Factors: Vitamin D deficiency and early onset of menstruation.

The Heart of Fibroid Awareness Week

Healthy Body, Healthy Life

The push for greater awareness didn’t start in a boardroom—it started with women sharing their stories. Originally sparked by patients and advocates who refused to accept “pain as normal,” this week has grown into a nationwide movement.

Today, it is a time to celebrate the progress made in patient-centered care and focus on the need for more diverse, minimally invasive treatment options, like uterine fibroid embolization, that prioritize a woman’s quality of life and future health.

How Fibroid Fighters Supports Awareness Efforts

Too many women navigate their diagnosis without the support they deserve. Fibroid Fighters bridges that gap through:

Your Health in Full Bloom Awareness Event and Gala:The event, held in July, features a celebrity panel, health expo, and performances, encouraging proactive health.

Community Outreach: Connecting women with specialists who understand their unique needs.

Education: Providing the latest insights into non-surgical treatments.

How You Can Make a Difference

Awareness starts with a single action. You can help us grow this movement:

  • Explore Our Awareness Toolkit: Access social media graphics and facts to help educate your own circle.
  • Share Your Story: Reading personal experiences is life-changing for a woman who has just been diagnosed. Your story provides the hope someone else needs today.
  • Join the Conversation: Follow us on social media to stay updated on the latest news, blogs, and community events.

We invite you to share your journey. Together, we can pave the way toward a future where every woman has the resources to live a healthy, active, and fibroid-free life.
