Fibroid Ambassadors Share Insights On Fibroids

July 27,2023

Two of our Fibroid Ambassadors were featured in this article that appeared in HealthCentral.

These advocates and influencers are here to share the wisdom they’ve gained to make your uterine Fibroid journey easier.

Eugenia Buie

Twenty-plus years ago, Eugenia Buie’s OB-GYN told her that her fibroids were nothing to worry about. Nothing? Her periods were so heavy she needed transfusions to replenish the blood she was losing. In 2021, she learned she had 12 fibroids, one nearly the size of a cantaloupe. The turning point came when she watched Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey undergo UF embolization on TV. It inspired Buie, 44, to have the procedure herself in 2021 and to become a fibroids advocate. “That definitely changed the shape of my life,” she says.

Kym Lee

Celebrity makeup artist Kym Lee, 50, discovered she had 14 large fibroids about 15 years ago. Her OB-GYN made the diagnosis but didn’t offer any solutions to help curb her heavy periods, cramps, and other symptoms that were getting progressively worse. Things came to a head when she bled through her pants while on the set of a TV show. Back home, Lee passed out in her garage from blood loss. “The next thing I knew, I was waking up in a hospital,” she recalls. “They did emergency surgery a couple of days later. I was forced to have a hysterectomy.”
